The mystery of the prohibited area

I know I had made a resolution to blog about my experiences at Thirphali Choti in my last post, but something really curious has happened since then and I just need to post this. Last night, bored of our very existence, Trikha and I went on a walk around campus. We were behind C’not exploring the place. We found a couple of desolate, undiscovered places with temples and dense foliage on campus. Satisfied with our walk, we decided we’ll take the long route back and walked right through Dakshin Marg. While on this road, we came across a very curious untarred path running at right angles at a point. This road was pretty well lighted up and seemed to go into the jungle. Strangely enough, there were tyre marks all over it. Feeling very famous five-ish we decided to explore. We found out that the road led to a tarred road which somehow didn’t have any other road linking to it. There were a few big houses around there. As we stood there gawking at this uncharted place, a chowkidaar crept up to us scaring us out of our wits. he told us that this were the directors’ homes and the area was out of bounds. So we walked away disgusted that our directors were not approachable and continued on our walk.

A little while later, we stumbled across a large gate that said Vice-Chancellor and this was so accessible, that we could have gone up to his door and knocked. A little suspicion and a call to Pandey confirmed that this was the campus director’s home and that the deputy directors were just as accessible. Happy with the culture of our college and suspicious about the prohibited area, we went back to talk to the chowki. We found him kindling a fire next to the untarred road. We asked him that we had just been to the Directors’ homes, so whose houses were these? He said, in these exact words: “Yeh BITS officer’s colony hai. Yahaan BITS ke officers rehte hai, doctor saab rehte hai”(This is the BITS Officers’ colony. The officers and doctor of the campus live here). Trikha asked him the names of the residents. His reply was “Jaanke kya ukhad loge”(What will you do by finding out). And then we were driven off again. Later in the night, Pandey and Trikha did some reconnaissance but were driven off by dogs.

So who can be so important that we can’t venture near his home when we can meet the directors any time we want. More on this mystery as we find out.
