Last night, I got my hands on Cactus Flower 2007, the BITS Pilani mag. Great expectations for it had grown as a result of reading the previous issues of cactus flower especially this one. Sad to say, it is not even distantly close to being good.
This is not just my view. Among others I have discussed it with, a 100% think, quite frankly, its pathetic. I see, that Rachit also echoes this view. To start off, a really sad looking cover. Come on guys, its our annual magazine. Don’t you think it deserves better; atleast a BITS logo on it?
Then articles like Twinkle twinkle, Hina 2006 and OrBITskut make me wanna hide my face in shame. Then the now infamous use of the f-word in the comic. How bloody desperate can u get man? Crux of it all are the cartoons on recruitment. This is a college magazine. Its supposed to be a reflection of our institutions greatness to the world. It is not meant to be a canvas for the editor and his team to write whatever they like. I remember this quote from the movie Spiderman:
With great power, comes great responsibility.
It must be mentioned though that, the article, A Perforated Soul and the verses Master and The Last Grain are brilliant. The sketches The Doors and The swan song are also good. to quote my friend Rachit, “Shows we have flashes of brilliance even in mediocrity.”

Have been reading a lot about CF being bad. Waiting to get my hands on a copy to check it out myself.

havent read the CF yet myself..but if u think it ’should reflect the greatness of our institute’ sorry to burst ur bubble dude…it aint some institute edited mag…its a students’ thing…and it only reflects ‘the greatness of the students’…and presumably u r still one of em..and if u think fuck is offensive..look away…its called freedom of expression…

Wat r u some sort of moral-fuckin-police who was out burning effigies of richard gere and mandira bedi or wat? u say u have a problem with a fuck being used somewhere and yet ur fav artist supposedly is cobain…wat do u think he wrote about? blue teddy bears in candyland?

@anonymous: Sorry to see that BITSians don’t have the guts to comment with their names….thought they were above such cheap things as anonymous comments. And the f word may or may not be offensive for people…that however doesn’t change the fact that you can’t use it in an official publication anywhere.The greatness of the Insti is the students, so you hardly show the student’s worth by publishing crap like CF 2007.
