Day 1 at work

After an entire week as a tourist in Hong Kong. my visa status finally got changed. So Day 1 at work at the National Geographic Channel finally. My office is located on the waterfront so its an amazing place. My day started with attending a meeting of the heads of the new NAt Geo channels in SE Asia. After a brilliant presentation and great videos, I began my work with the Marketing and PR department.
Interesting take away from the morning’s meet: Fox network’s growth strategy is powered by their ability to keep opening new channels. Though it is strategy conflicting with what we usually believe, of consolidating one’s core competency,I was lead to realize that the core competency of Fox’s business is opening up new channels in a very short time and breaking even in under six quarters. I guess this kind of strategy can only work for a company backed by powerful brands like the National Geographic channel.Thoughts? Also along with a few other interesting points like the differentiation of channels into Global locally packaged ones and local wide range channels, I picked up a lot of stuff about the television business.
