A song for each day of the week

Absolutely ramndom list of some of my favorite songs with *days in their title:

My dream

I have long known that I could never last in an office environment. The past few weeks have driven that point through my arse. Not that my work in my internship is bad or demeaning, its just that I’m not made for a cubicle.

I have always dreamt of traveling without bothering about going back any time soon. The only problem is that I don’t wanna do it alone. So here’s a holla into the internet hoping to find someone like me who doesn’t mind traveling endlessly without bother.

I will remember

  • Early morning chai’s at Nutan
  • Late night mango shakes at C’not
  • Impulsive mid-compre cycling trips
  • Mountain(road) biking with Mallick Shar and Dimple chutiya
  • My first pahadi nite out with Octagon
  • The formation of the W.I.N.G
  • Playing Barbie girl with Cheela
  • Sending text messages saying “psychedelia begins” to random people
  • Prakash hotel in Jhunjhunu
  • The making of my PAVA video ad
  • The Girl Next Door
  • Notpron online quiz
  • Viral Fever
  • Orkut
  • Tatta Pani
  • Imtiaz iPod etc.

This is beginning of the end of the best years of my life.

Day 1 at work

After an entire week as a tourist in Hong Kong. my visa status finally got changed. So Day 1 at work at the National Geographic Channel finally. My office is located on the waterfront so its an amazing place. My day started with attending a meeting of the heads of the new NAt Geo channels in SE Asia. After a brilliant presentation and great videos, I began my work with the Marketing and PR department.
Interesting take away from the morning’s meet: Fox network’s growth strategy is powered by their ability to keep opening new channels. Though it is strategy conflicting with what we usually believe, of consolidating one’s core competency,I was lead to realize that the core competency of Fox’s business is opening up new channels in a very short time and breaking even in under six quarters. I guess this kind of strategy can only work for a company backed by powerful brands like the National Geographic channel.Thoughts? Also along with a few other interesting points like the differentiation of channels into Global locally packaged ones and local wide range channels, I picked up a lot of stuff about the television business.

The year that was

Now I haven’t been really fair to my blog for the past year: keeping it out of all the action, and what action there was. So here’s all the juice.

It was the beginning of the fall semester(ya ya I’m using fingangee lingo), when Sandy* decided to run for President. He ran. He lost. He lost to no one. That’s the funny story. For more, refer to the much hyped, much read story on Rachi Machu sachu. And in case you want to get in touch with this great man, I am in his good books. So give me a buzz.

Then a couple of months later, Gundy* got mixed up in some hush up matters. You guys know all about this. Yet, just to remind you:

Gundy and Mundy* went up a hill

To fetch a pail of god knows what

Mundy pushed Gundy down and broke his crown

And proved that she’s a slut.

And to cap it off, Gundy’s crew was shuffled around the town.

When the crew came back together

They stayed under the radar.

Today they are a bunch of rising seniors(yes firangee lingo again) looking starry eyed into the future(literally if you know what I mean).

If you want to hit me silly after reading through this post, I will be available here for the month of June.

Adieu Blogger

After holding back the action for a long time, I have finally moved my blog out of blogger into my own Wordpress server and am I ever loving it. Not that Blogger wasn’t fun and simple to use, but the customizability of Wordpress has left me absolutely stunned, not to mention this absolutely gorgeous theme from Woo (kinda reminds me of Russell Peters though).

Was supposed to be an older TDC, but thanks to my poor drawing skills, here’s the world’s first glimpse at a tribal TDC

P.S: As is painfully obvious, I am bored to my bones. Someone help me!!

Of Universities and The Express

The Indian Express made my day today with this wonderful headline:

No Indian Universities in global toplist so UGC has a solution: let’s prepare our own list

The article goes on to elaborate how NAAC(National Assessment and Accreditation Council) and UGC(University Grants Commission) are whining about this situation. NAAC says that the criteria used by rankings such as The Times rankings or the Shanghai Academic rankings, is biased and does not take into account social conditions.

I am surprised at the way these bodies are getting worked up about rankings. Granted students do consult rankings while deciding where to study, and so when you are looking to appear as an International educational hub, it does help to have colleges in these lists. But last I checked, India’s is going bonkers trying to set up enough IIT’s so that a larger section of Indian’s can attend these august institutions. So why bother? And social conditions…? If I am a parent looking to send my kids to a college abroad, would I send him to a good college in Afghanistan because it is doing well in the backdrop of violence, social stigma and poverty? Probably not(though I must say I would personally love to attend school in such a context). So, just because India is a developing country, with a huge population, low literacy and poverty, doesn’t mean it makes sense to consider these as factors to rank colleges worldwide.

And if the reason for this concern is that you want to be the best, then UGC and NAAC should stop complaining about the rankings being biased on such grounds and figure out what makes the universities that do figure in these lists click.
