Thunder

I haven’t blogged in a while. But I just had to get this out.

From as far as I can remember Thunder was my neighbour’s dog. Thunder was an active brown pup of no particular breed. He was always a fighter and getting into scruffs was as normal to him as playing fetch is to other dogs.

I had tried my luck with pets a few times, but never managed to hold on to one. Thunder became my pet. He was always around the playground, running beside me as I took my first bicycle ride, sitting by me when I smoked my first cigarette. He was my best bud.

Then came 2004. A miserable year for me. I tried going through the coaching process to get into an “esteemed” IIT. I failed and came back home. All my friends had moved on to newer hipper social circles. Around this time, my family adopted Shaggy, Thunder’s nephew. From then on, Thunder would always be around. Together with Shaggy, these two became my closest companions. I cannot even begin to estimate the number of hours I spent with the two of them. Shaggy never grew to be  taller than a foot, but he had the mentality of a wolf. Shaggy is forever inciting fights. But through all these years, Thunder has protected him like a son.

Since I left home for college, I’ve never really spent much time with Thunder. He was growing old and lazy, and wouldn’t be around all that much anymore when I was at home. The last time I saw him was in November last year. He hadn’t been cleaned in a while and was producing a pretty incredible stench. I shooed him away that day. I can never forgive myself for doing that.

Today, Thunder is no more. I have lost one of my best friends and my last memory of him is shooing him away. My sister has pictures with him. I do not like being in front of the camera. I wish I had that one photo with him. Bud

dy, you were the best and I can never begin to express how much I will miss you. Thank you. Rest in Peace boy.

Powerpoint Logo Mania

I never thought I’d accept this, after ridiculing Mr.Vineet Keshari for using Powerpoint to create graphics, but Powerpoint can be an amazing tool to create simplistic graphical logos. The following are all logo that I created using Powerpoint in the past couple of days.

A night of IPL

After watching a lacklustre performance from KKR on YouTube, I walked into Xtreme Sports Bar in Banerghatta to capture the action of the RCB/DD match. The pub was choc-a-bloc with IPL enthusiasts sporting RCB jerseys or Red shirts. Also mingled in were a small, but very vocal legion of DD supporters.

As the match began, DJ Manny picked up everyone’s spirits with the Black Eyed Peas’ “Tonight’s gonna be a good night”. As the match progressed on the special Hi Definition screens at the bar, the energy just lit up. However, as Sehwag and Warner took the RCB bowlers to task, the crowd fell silent, except from the occasional cheer each time DJ Manny played the now well known IPL trumpet sound. By the fourth over, the small DD contingency were almost dancing with glee when Mithun bowled out Sehwag. The entire bar erupted into a frenzy of chants and dances. The dismissal of Gambhir in the very next over brought the entire house to its feet.

Soon the game saw alternating cheers from both sides as they tried to drown each other out. Every nook and cranny of the bar including the smoking area was full of people whose eyes were fixated on the screen. Although the second part of the match saw the RCB hopes and the fans’ chants drowning slowly, the spirit didn’t quite die. After a bunch of guys started the RCB chant, the crowd immediately revived and there was some pretty wild dancing (see photos) on the floor, even though RCB was obviously going nowhere with the match.

I took time to chat with Deepa Lobo, one of the wild RCB fans who was languishing around in obvious sorrow from the result. She however was pretty upbeat about RCB’s chances in the match. Looking at RCB’s current standing and form, I’m not that hopeful, but hey, it was a good night…who cares?! We’ll get ‘em next time!!!

The place that doesn’t exist

The sheer beauty of Gokarna is beyond God. If you are going there to spend a couple of days off, don’t go. gokarna is not a place to visit. It is a place to stay in. Only after you stay for about 4 days, you might be able to pull yourself away.

The vastness of the ocean and absolute virginity of the beaches is something that’ll take your breath away every single day. There really isn’t much to do in Gokarna except chill at the beach, meet a whole bunch of very varied, very new people and munch on awesome pancakes. Sleep in one of the cheap Beach shacks overnight and wake up every morning to the sound of the ocean sweeping in.

One can literally sit for hours eating breakfast by the sea.

Gokarna isn’t a creation of God. Gokarna is God.

P.S: I am an atheist.

A song for each day of the week

Absolutely ramndom list of some of my favorite songs with *days in their title:

My dream

I have long known that I could never last in an office environment. The past few weeks have driven that point through my arse. Not that my work in my internship is bad or demeaning, its just that I’m not made for a cubicle.

I have always dreamt of traveling without bothering about going back any time soon. The only problem is that I don’t wanna do it alone. So here’s a holla into the internet hoping to find someone like me who doesn’t mind traveling endlessly without bother.

I will remember

  • Early morning chai’s at Nutan
  • Late night mango shakes at C’not
  • Impulsive mid-compre cycling trips
  • Mountain(road) biking with Mallick Shar and Dimple chutiya
  • My first pahadi nite out with Octagon
  • The formation of the W.I.N.G
  • Playing Barbie girl with Cheela
  • Sending text messages saying “psychedelia begins” to random people
  • Prakash hotel in Jhunjhunu
  • The making of my PAVA video ad
  • The Girl Next Door
  • Notpron online quiz
  • Viral Fever
  • Orkut
  • Tatta Pani
  • Imtiaz iPod etc.

This is beginning of the end of the best years of my life.

Day 1 at work

After an entire week as a tourist in Hong Kong. my visa status finally got changed. So Day 1 at work at the National Geographic Channel finally. My office is located on the waterfront so its an amazing place. My day started with attending a meeting of the heads of the new NAt Geo channels in SE Asia. After a brilliant presentation and great videos, I began my work with the Marketing and PR department.
Interesting take away from the morning’s meet: Fox network’s growth strategy is powered by their ability to keep opening new channels. Though it is strategy conflicting with what we usually believe, of consolidating one’s core competency,I was lead to realize that the core competency of Fox’s business is opening up new channels in a very short time and breaking even in under six quarters. I guess this kind of strategy can only work for a company backed by powerful brands like the National Geographic channel.Thoughts? Also along with a few other interesting points like the differentiation of channels into Global locally packaged ones and local wide range channels, I picked up a lot of stuff about the television business.

The year that was

Now I haven’t been really fair to my blog for the past year: keeping it out of all the action, and what action there was. So here’s all the juice.

It was the beginning of the fall semester(ya ya I’m using fingangee lingo), when Sandy* decided to run for President. He ran. He lost. He lost to no one. That’s the funny story. For more, refer to the much hyped, much read story on Rachi Machu sachu. And in case you want to get in touch with this great man, I am in his good books. So give me a buzz.

Then a couple of months later, Gundy* got mixed up in some hush up matters. You guys know all about this. Yet, just to remind you:

Gundy and Mundy* went up a hill

To fetch a pail of god knows what

Mundy pushed Gundy down and broke his crown

And proved that she’s a slut.

And to cap it off, Gundy’s crew was shuffled around the town.

When the crew came back together

They stayed under the radar.

Today they are a bunch of rising seniors(yes firangee lingo again) looking starry eyed into the future(literally if you know what I mean).

If you want to hit me silly after reading through this post, I will be available here for the month of June.

Adieu Blogger

After holding back the action for a long time, I have finally moved my blog out of blogger into my own Wordpress server and am I ever loving it. Not that Blogger wasn’t fun and simple to use, but the customizability of Wordpress has left me absolutely stunned, not to mention this absolutely gorgeous theme from Woo (kinda reminds me of Russell Peters though).
